Top artists are producing new works using Fired Earth materials for Fired Earth's 20th anniversary touring exhibition in 2004.
All this activity began with five emerging artists - Emily Courtauld, Tamsin Saccani, Cleo Mussi, Barbara Fido and Ann Little - who have created five new works of art at residencies in five of Fire Earth's inspirational stores.
As part of the project, emerging and established artists will work on a creative project with children in the context of a rural school helping them to appreciate different materials such as ceramics, earth pigments and paints and inspiring them to create their own works of art. Fired Earth are working with ten established and well-known UK artists, including Eileen Cooper, Luke Elwes, Kimberley Gundle, Gillian Lever, Alex Lowery, Clement McAleer, Helen MacAlister, Bridget MacDonald, Will Maclean and David Prentice to produce another ten works of art.
Working with the HRH Prince of Wales' Art & Kids initiative and top London gallery, Art First, Fired Earth paint, tiles and fabrics will be used by schoolchildren, emerging artists and Fired Earth's own artistic staff to create a body of work highlighting the natural quality of Fired Earth products. Events will run in Fired Earth stores throughout 2004 and the tour will culminate in August at the Edinburgh Arts Festival 2004.
Beverley Nielsen, Managing Director of Fired Earth says, "The artists are highlighting the quality of our paint and beauty of our tiles and fabrics. Mixing them with Prince Charles' Arts & Kids Initiative will make Fired Earth`s 20th birthday memorable."
