Rick Stein’s new TV series is out in August. Called French Odyssey it's about a canal boat journey he made last summer from Bordeaux to Marseille. Meandering through the tree lined canals of Southern France, particularly the Canal du Midi, where Stein visited markets, food producers, farms and little family restaurants.
“It would be hard to say it had a serious message because it was such seriously good fun” says Rick Stein. “I had heard everyone going on about the French being crazy about fast food and neglecting their culinary traditions. I'm pleased to report such remarks are complete rubbish. French food is alive and well.”
"I haven't seen any of it yet, but David Pritchard the producer says it is looking utterly wonderful" says Stein. "I fear, though, he is going to include my account of The Tale of the Salted Burgundians of Aigue Mort. I will say no more at this stage only to sadly report it would have to be one of the worst cases of repeatedly fluffed lines ever recorded."
